The Dossier
What to know about Dior.
Christian Dior launched his perfume house alongside the very first New Look couture collection in 1947 — Miss Dior, a chypre tribute to his sister Catherine, premiered the same season. The conviction was that a Dior dress should be finished with a Dior perfume, both built with the same exacting craftsmanship.
The main line — Sauvage, J'adore, Miss Dior, Dior Homme, Hypnotic Poison — anchors global luxury perfumery. La Collection Privée Christian Dior, launched in 2004 under François Demachy, is the house's niche tier: large 125 ml bottles, single-material compositions, sold only at Dior boutiques. Ambre Nuit, Oud Ispahan, Bois d'Argent and Spice Blend have become genuine collector references.
Francis Kurkdjian succeeded Demachy as Dior perfumer in 2021, and the recent Privée releases bear his signature precision.
