What to know about Ex Nihilo.
Ex Nihilo was founded in 2013 by Olivier Royère, Sylvie Loday and Benoît Verdier on rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. The house pairs ready-to-wear niche compositions with a proprietary in-store personalisation system — the Osmologue — that lets customers add one of fourteen 'overdose' accords on top of any base composition.
The compositions favour modern materials over historical reverence: hyper-modern musks, ambroxan, Iso E Super, and sleek architectural florals. Fleur Narcotique — peach, lychee, jasmine, white musk — remains the house signature and one of the most-worn modern niche perfumes of the late 2010s.
