The Dossier
What to know about Penhaligon's.
William Henry Penhaligon opened his Jermyn Street barbershop in 1870 and quickly began blending his own colognes for customers — Hammam Bouquet, inspired by the steam of the Turkish baths next door, launched in 1872 and is still in production. The house holds three Royal Warrants and has dressed five generations of British nobility.
The modern era is defined by Portraits — a narrative-driven collection of perfumes that each represent a fictional member of the Penhaligon family tree, complete with character names, illustrated bottles and storyline ('The Tragedy of Lord George', 'The Coveted Duchess Rose'). The collection has reintroduced the house to a new global audience.
