Opening chapter
rançois Demachy is a distinguished French perfumer celebrated for his influential work with leading fragrance houses over several decades.
02 · Formation
Born and raised in Grasse, the cradle of French perfumery, François Demachy's journey into the olfactory arts began after a brief foray into medical studies. His early career saw him hone his craft at Mane and Charabot, before a significant move in 1984 to Chanel. There, as Director of Research and Development, he oversaw fragrance creation for Chanel and other distinguished labels including Ungaro, Bourjois, and Tiffany. This formative period spanned two decades, solidifying his expertise and reputation within the industry.
03 · Practice
In 2006, Demachy transitioned to LVMH, assuming the role of Director of Development for their cosmetics and perfumes division, and, most notably, becoming the exclusive perfumer for Christian Dior. During his esteemed tenure at Dior, he conceived many of the brand's most successful and recognisable contemporary fragrances, such as Sauvage, Miss Dior, and Dior Homme. His creative philosophy underscored the pleasure inherent in the act of composition, often drawing inspiration from the individuals who would eventually wear his creations. His contributions have profoundly influenced global fragrance trends.
